Special Programs
Salado Special Population Programs:
All students in special programs have an individual education plan developed to address their educational needs.
Special Education:
Resource classes are mainly offered in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, and Math. Teachers use a variety of programs based on the student’s needs. Content Mastery is offered for any subject based on the student’s modifications.
Dyslexia:
An explicit systematic phonics program is used to address the needs of students identified as dyslexic. A multi-sensory approach is used to teach basic language skills in the areas of reading, writing, and spelling.
English as a Second Language:
ESL provides limited English proficient students competency in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the English language through programs such as Rosetta Stone, Skills Bank, and Lexia software. The instructor uses ESL and basal print texts to teach English as well as support the students in all core areas.
Reading Intervention/Rallye:
Reading lab designed for 2 nd – 8 th grade students who are decoding below grade level. The instructor uses software programs and directly taught programs like Sonday, LIPS, Read Naturally, and Plato to strengthen phonemic awareness, comprehension, and fluency. Students receive one-on-one reading support.
Grand Central Station:
Designed to support at-risk students in the 4 th – 8 th grade, GCS is a program where students can receive support in any subject through manipulatives, study skills software, and Kurzweil.
Gifted and Talented:
K – 8 th grade students are offered the opportunity to work on a self-selected independent study project under the guidance of a GT teacher. Additionally, K- 4 th grade students participate weekly in a pull-out program. 5 th – 12 th grade students are offered various AP and Pre-AP classes in further enrich their curriculum.
