Menus and Pricing
Meals are planned using National School Lunch Program guidelines for a traditional meal pattern and according to the USDA Healthy School meal guidelines. Menus are planned to provide a variety of nourishing items with consideration of today’s children’s preferences.
To reduce fat in the meals we serve, our Cafeteria does the following:
- We have adopted the Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines for child nutrition
- We serve low-fat cheese
- Children are given the choice of skim or low-fat milk, including 1% strawberry and fat-free chocolate milk
- Turkey is used in menu items such as ham and hot dogs
- Pizza Hut pizza is formulated to TDA lowered fat standards
- We do not serve fried items at the Elementary or Secondary schools
- Fresh fruit is offered daily
- Snacks and drinks served have lower sugar content and no carbonation
- Sandwiches are served on wheat buns.

If you wish to know what your child is purchasing, please contact your Cafeteria Manager and request a detailed account report.
HOW DO I PURCHASE MEALS FOR MY CHILD?
The cafeterias operate on a computerized accounting system. Each student has an account consisting of money deposited in the account. To deposit money in the account – send a check made payable to SISD Child Nutrition. The student will receive a statement when their balance reaches a negative value. It is important to monitor the account balance to prevent having a negative balance. A peanut butter & jelly sandwich, milk and fruit will be offered to the student at no charge when the account balance is in deficit by more than $8.25. Positive balances are carried over to the next year. Any negative balances must be paid prior to the beginning of the next school year. Charges will not be allowed the last month of the Spring term.
To purchase meals, the student enters their confidential pin number (student ID) into the key pad and the cashier will enter their purchases into the system. We highly recommend parents periodically request a printout of the student’s account to review purchases and discuss appropriate food choices with the student.
